On MPEG Streamclip, I get a blank white screen, but I can hear the audio. For the QuickTime Player, I get the message that "the document could not be opened. Bringing back an old thread. Same question applies. I have a lot of family videos that were imported on a windows pc as an mpeg-2 with ac-3. As far as I have been looking, there is no way to play these clips with video and sound in iphoto/quicktime. I have the mpeg2 component installed so the video plays, just no audio.

I have spent days trying to get DVD data converted with VOB2MPEG to mpeg2 to play audio. I purchased the mpeg 2 codec from apple (rediculous), but still no audio. I believe the mpeg2 file was encoded wit AC3 audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a few more dry eye days away from going back to Windows 7 where everything just works!

Quicktime only sees the video, not the audio. Switch to MpegStreamclip, and use it to make .avi files out of the Mpeg files. (it will properly flatten the muxed files) Then, stitch the .avi files in QT together, and then save that as a reference movie. You can then drag and drop that reference movie into Toast to burn to DVD.

The files I have are MPEG-4. When launched on macOS QuickTime, there is no sound. I tested quickly on an iPhone, and the audio is played when the same files are launched. On the same machine, the Elmedia Player also successfully produces the audio.
