USB Audio CODEC drivers disap. Two weekends ago, the USB Audio CODEC drivers disappeared from the Audio Devices section of my mid-2011 iMac after I reorganized my home studio/office. The OS I’m using is El Capitan 10.11.6. I record the voiceovers for my radio show through an Alesis MultiMix 8 board into Audacity.

The older USB multimix would only send the stereo out main mix via USB, along with a stereo mix return. The alesis SHOULD essentially be used as an external usb mic--albeit one with Lots of controls; and yes-- it should show as "USB Audio Codec". In Cubase- you should go to the Devices menu, then open "VST Connections".

I recently tried out the Multimix 16 USB (NOT the newer and better USB 2.0 or Firewire models) and it just shows up in Windows as USB AUDIO CODEC.It doesn't have ASIO drivers like the 2.0 version so it's no better than a cheap little external USB soundcard that has one input and a stereo output.
