The 2200 has a warm, laid back mid range but can be a little bright in the highs at very high volumes. Then again, my speakers are of bright character so with more laid back speakers this may be unoticeable. I'm using mine to power my surrounds but it could easily be the "main" amplifier in a system.

Bought the 2200PE amp in 1987 with the 1155 Pre-Amp. Driving a pair of Paradigm 11 speakers. Sound is great. This could easily be the best 100W/ch rated amp ever made, but now I'm a little biased arn't I. Only problem was the relays "popping" the speakers after 6 or 7 years of use. Had them replaced, but problem came back after 18 months.

Getting the 2200 or 2400 would only help marginally; perhaps you would consider more efficient speakers in lieu of getting vintage NAD gear, or if you want the power get something new (pro-audio amp or Emo, new with warranty are both cost effective choices). You could try a processor as I suggested above.
