Now, however, in Nero 8 (aka nero vision 5) the video plays but there is no sound, no backgorund music either. I imported dolby-city.vob (the cool start sequence of many movies with 5.1 sound and the helicopter) that plays great with 5.1 sound so I know that the sound is coming out from vision5 - just ther is no sound when playing dv files.

Hi! I am trying to use Nero Vision 5.3.3.0 to create a simple slideshow with background music onto DVD. I am getting no sound in the preview screen (with simulated remote control), and I get no sound on the resulting VOB file nor on the finished DVD. If I export the project to an avi file, i do get sound!

I downloaded some clips from youtube and converted them from flv to avi. No problems there. (I had to download DIVX to be able to use the converter program) I used Nero Vision 5 to burn them to DVD.

Two quick things to check. Right click Speaker in Notification area, (Systray), and open Volume Mixer. Is Nero muted? Then Start > Settings > System > Sound > near the bottom of right hand side > Advance Sound Options. Is Nero using the default sound output?
