I bought a new audio card (Diamond XtremeSound PCI 7.1) which has a windows 8 driver. That didn't solve the problem. If I play audio as the user logged into the console and connect via the network using RDP from a remote computer the local audio terminates. I don't have another windows 8 machine to test from.
