Properties check settings for Device Usage enabled and so on. Also do same for Configure on Lower Left of that box. In Control Panel you can also look for an Audio Manager along with the Sound Settings. You could do a complete reset on the CMOS & that could reactivate the sound device? Remove the battery (whilst powered down & battery removed obviously). You might get a re-activation of the device when the battery is re-fitted some 30 mins later when rebooted? There might be a combineation of things needed to achieve this so I will keep looking.

Now when I go to audio devices in the Control Panel, 'Realtek Audio AC'97 Audio Device' shows up as my default speakers. And there's also a RealTek Digital Output listed there. Under the Recording tab, Microphone is listed as a default device, and underneath there is: Line in 'Realtek AC'97 Audio' which says Currently Unavailable.

I just did by clicking inside the sounds menu, where there used to be speakers and now saying no sound system detected, right click in that box, and it will tell you to enable the sound system on your pc or laptop. once enabled then its good to go.
