In both Gnome and Unity sound works pretty great. But, when I switch to Fluxbox, voila, no sound! How do I fix this? No sound when in XOrg and openbox or fluxbox. I have a cli ubuntu system installed with only openbox and fluxbox for X11 WM. No KDE/Gnome/XFCE. When I bootup without X11 I can use my sound card with no problem. However when I run startx, my sound suddenly stops working. And if I log back out of X11, it will work again.

The problem I'm having is that I have no sound output when I'm logged into a fluxbox session. There are no sound problems when running gnome. If I open xterm in a fluxbox session and run alsamixer, and hit F6 to display my sound card, none is recognized.

Re: [solved]no sound in vlc after change to fluxbox!! ok, i just went back into kde, fired up vlc before i did anythin else and sound! so went back into fluxbox, did the same, and sound in vlc!!! thought ok, it just needed X restarting! but then fired up xmms, and nothin else would produce sound!!
