If you get a reaction from your midi keyboard but still no sound.... OPTIONS -> PREFERENCES -> AUDIO -> DEVICE -> ASIO CONFIGURATION Make sure SCARLET 2i2 USB is hilighted. Exit, Apply, and you should get sound. You have no idea how long it took me to find this. For some reason Reaper did not see it when installing.

Try to drag an mp3 into reaper and check if you have sound. If that works there is no problem. Then check the reaper manual or some tutorials on youtube on how to use vst-plugins and vst-instruments.

In Reaper, I have to set the "Audio system" to "ASIO" for me to get any sound bar moving from the mic. When I play back, nothing comes out unless I actively go and switch to "Direct Sound". That's such an annoyance because I have to switch back and forth just to hear what the hell I recorded and then back.
