FFmpeg did change the codec ID, but then VirtualDubMod created a file with no audio even though I had the stream set to Full Processing, Compression - Lame MP3. I had to demux it, which I was hoping to avoid, but oh well. Thank you.

In the Streams list option of Virtualdubmod the information is that: Source: Input AVI File Desc: AVI Audio Stream 1 (tag 0x2000, ATSC / A-52 (Dolby AC3)). I tried to save the sound to WAV format using Virtualdubmod but the generated WAV file has no sound too. I’m able to play another AVI file in Virtualdubmod with no problem.

If you get messages like "no audio compressor could be found. source format tag: xxxx" from VirtualDub, you should manually add the following line to your windows\system.ini file under [drivers32] section: msacm.xxxx=ac3acm.acm (in my case xxxx=2000 too, but i've heard something about 0050 or 0x50)

correct tyler, svideo is kinda like hdmi as its far superior then analog cables but it doesn't carry audio at all. You need to plug in the white and red audio cables from your vcr to the capture device (or audio mixer if you have one then to your capture device) then you'll hear audio with your video. DeeSeven.

I'm using VirtualDub version 1.9.11 to screen capture video game play on my computer. It works amazing for video; however, I can't get my audio to record. My motherboard is a Gigabyte ga-z77x-ud5h. And I have downloaded the latest audio drivers and even tried older drivers. Here is an image of what my Sound options in VirtualDub SHOULD resemble.

OGM files can contains various audio / text streams. Since VirtualDubMod only take into account the 2 first audio streams in general (i.e. for AVI files), OGM streams are handled in the Show inputs window. The window will list all audio / text streams in the OGM. Note that the video stream isn't listed.
