Dec 11, 2018. Ok, I finally figured out what's going on. Turns out that QuickTime Player doesn't play MPEG audio. Or it doesn't come with the codec preinstalled or something. Anyway if you are having the same problem take a look at your player. I just open the rendered file in VLC and sure enough, there was the audio.
