It does have sound, but it's so stuttery and slow that it kills the experience. NO$GBA through Wine, on the other hand, runs smooth as butter... except I can't get the sound to work at all. None of the sound options in NO$GBA make a difference, I've tried both 2.8 and 2.6a. The sound test works in winecfg for the default audio hardware.
