Echolink defaults to the Sound card output. A USB adapter is not a Real Sound card. It just wishes and tries to act like one. It also can hog the CPU and data bus. The easiest way to do this is as follows: In EchoStation, choose Tools => Audio Setup. Select the Preferences tab. Check the box marked "Mute unused ports". Exit and re-start EchoStation. I'm using VOX for receive, and the green Receiver Busy light stays on all the time, even when there's no received signal.
