Having a situation on Win xp. No sound. Going through device manager yields 'Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus' with a yellow exclamation point and a code 28. Trying to install updated sound drives prove fruitless. Another piece of info that MIGHT help is 'Soundmax failed to load properly, you may need to reinstall soundmax' upon startup.

Windows 10 doesn't currently detect the SoundMax audio card in my HP/Compaq nc6320 laptop. It installed a driver for "high definition audio" but that didn't work, reporting that the audio service wasn't working. The trouble shooter didn't work out what the problem was either.
