Audio normalization across multiple clips and for Youtube ...

Your workflow is wrong. You just don't normalize audio with After Effects. Instead either do it with an audio editor, like Audition (which seems suitable to match clips in timeline, just use the normalize effect and maybe a compressor if the dynamic is too great). Finally apply loudness normalization with your video editor.
Sound Normalization in AE? : AfterEffects

Does anyone know any good techniques of normalizing sound in AE? I know AE is not for these kind of things, but most of the times I find myself being too lazy to open up Premiere to do the audio check. I am interested to see if any of you have a simpler method for that.

After reading quite a bit about the importance of loudness normalization for video, especially those intended for broadcast, I've been researching the best way to do this. So far, Adobe Audition CC has a loudness radar, but I can't seem to find any resource on how to export audio from AE as one file in order to do that.

How to normalize audio? Why do it? Everything you need to know
https://higherhz.com/audio-normalization/
To normalize audio is to change its overall volume by a fixed amount to reach a target level. It is different from compression that changes volume over time in varying amounts. It does not affect dynamics like compression, and ideally does not change the sound in any way other than purely changing its volume.

No matter what I do the audio still redlines. I've tried different formats, i've turned the gain down, i've checked the settings for after effects and all of the sound settings seem to match up correctly in Audacity with After Effects. I don't know if there is a problem with my Macbook audio settings or even my Audacity or After Effects settings.

The normalization effect in audio software will find whatever the loudest point in your recorded audio is. Once it knows the loudest bit of audio, it will turn that up to 0 dB (if you are going for the greatest amount of normalization). So the loudest part of your audio gets turned up to as loud as it can be before clipping.
