Audio is working fine via the headset/speaker jack. The built in speaker just seems to be kaput. I've now seen other posts on this forum from owners who've had the same thing happen so maybe it's a common issue with Garmin Nuvi models. I'll get it repaired under warranty. The steps posted were probably broken down more than they really needed to be. So don't feel intimidated. I had a Nuvi 350 before getting the Nuvi 760. I had the same concerns that you have about the 760 being possibly too big for the area. The 350 does fit very well in that spot. And after I got the 760, it fits quite nicely as well.
