The SB can deliver 5.1 audio and the GTX sees that and offers 5.1 speaker options. The GTX does not see 4k passthrough capability in the SB and does not offer 4k display resolution options. Win10 64 home. I use Nvidia control panel to control both video and audio.

Since the Nvidia driver is sensing the HDTV cant play 5.1 on it's speakers it refuses to send anything but stereo, even though the HDTV can pass 5.1 dolby or LPCM out ots coax to the AV receiver. If anyone knows of a working way to force or spoof Nvidia driver EDID monitoring please let me know. This here below did not work.

It outputs films in 5.1 DTS via Optical Digital due to Bit-Stream compression, but not games, due to their uncompressed HD audio, so I have to resort to using Dolby Pro-logic surround sound approximation for games via my sound bar. I too have similar issue. I have windows 8.1 lenovo laptop with nvidia GT 650 M graphics card, latest Sony TV and 2 year old Sony 5.1 home theatre. I have connected my laptop to the TV thru HDMI and TV to the 5.1 home theatre thru optical audio cable. I have gone thru all the settings inside the control panel to get the 5.1 audio output.
