45. Posted May 15, 2017. Many motherboards come with 7.1 surround connections these days. I have one from 2010 with a 5.1 connection setup. My first suggestion would be compare the specifications on the onboard audio chipset vs. the dedicated board. Second, compare the software options each one offers you.

Onboard sound is a bit of a luck of a draw, I don't trust so much into the capabilities of whoever designs the onboard audio part of the motherboard, I'm sure it's not so much effort put into so I imagine it varies quite a bit from one manufacturer to another how it sounds, at least ASrock that has been using pretty much the same amp config ...

Even in 2022, 16GB memory is enough for almost all games, with a few exceptions like heavily modded games and flight simulators. As of 2022, the speed sweetspot is 3600MT/s at CL16 (or Cas Latency), or 4000MT/s CL18 before diminishing returns start kicking in.

assuming the onboard on this would beat my old 20 buck audigy, but nope. so i dumped the audigy in there as well. and during all this time i had pretty low tier headsets/headphones for around 40 bucks. though, both those mobos had "analog devices" sound chips, that realtek of yours might be better, who knows.

Well if the soundcard isn't showing up in both Device Manager and under Sound, and you say it's enabled in the BIOS, and that you tried installing the audio drivers, then yeah, the card might be dead. Odd though, cause even if the card was dead, and you had in enabled in the BIOS it would show as a device with a problem.

Apart from the clock speed differences, IGPs are sensitive to RAM speed, and single channel RAM is to be avoided at all costs. Supported RAM speeds went from DDR4-2133 for ix-6xxx, to DDR4-2400 for ix-7xxx, to DDR4-2666 for i5/7-8xxxx, which was extended to i3, Pentium and Celeron for Comet Lake (i3-10xx and Celeron G59xx/Pentium G64/65/66xx ...
Possible issues with Realtek Onboard Audio

My real issue is the crashes I sometime get consistently that I'm fairly certain have to do with my onboard audio card. My motherboard has a realtek high definition audio onbaord card and I'm pretty sure it's causing these crashes. I have read alot about this audio card causing issues in various other PC games.
