You're missing an audio connection (optical or coax) from the cable box to the receiver. The 5100 doesn't process any audio received over an HDMI connection - need to go to a better system for that feature. Onkyo HT-S5100 audio setup help. So I have the onkyo HT-S5100 home theater with the HT-R560 receiver connected to my panasonic TCP50S1. I used HDMI cables to connect the HD STB to the receiver and also from the receiver to tv. The xbox has component cables directly to the tv. Both the HD STB and xbox have optical outs, as does the tv.

I was dissapointed when I rushed into buying this without first reading about how it doesn't support HDMI audio. My question is whether it is worth it to upgrade the reciever to the Onkyo SR606 to support TrueHD and keep the speakers and woofer from the HT-S5100 system or is the audio from the optical cables negligible with this system.
