I have recently bought a Samsung LE40C750 TV, Sony BDP S570B which are both connected to the Onkyo HT-S6305B home cinema system. I have the Blu ray player (and a BT Vision box) connected with HDMI and the HDMI out goes to the TV using ARC for audio. Whenever I watch TV, it always shows the audio as PCM on my receiver.

No PCM probably isn't the setting you want it on. Most HD movies allow you to select what format of audio should be outputing. When I select the 5.1 audio channel on the player (vlc) I lose portions of the audio track like the dialogs and can only hear background music. The receiver does not seem to detect a 5.1 audio stream, when I use the onkyo remote "Display" button it shows PCM fs:192 and when trying to change the "listening mode" I only get cbl stereo or cbl direct.
