2013-11-10 4:04 pm. #8. Smd 1206 size resistors are quite easy to solder and desolder if one uses a magnifying lamp. I put some solder on one pad, then put the resistor in place and hold it until the solder cools, 1-2 seconds. Easy to do the other side as the resistor is held in place by the first solder.

All 3 amps sound very similar when using the same chassis and transformer. The Mooly amp sounded great in another chassis and with other transformers. I think there is a pattern here. In conclusion: i would not like to pass judgement on the sound of the TGM8 until I have tried it with a different PS.

However, a simple, low cost discrete amplifier with good sound quality will be a good contender if well protected in the event of DC faults and overloads and for a simple amp, the P3a is great in sound quality and power. .....It depends on the amplifier and the source. I have seen many people report that the input cap is critical and so small on-board caps can be a compromise. As a result, you need to allow lots of board space for high end film caps. Or you mount them off-board.

I decided on this amp because it is so simple, and am bored of that "Mosfet" sound !! This is a pure BJT power amp! Also, Sakis, from diyaudio forum has praised this amp and is the reference amp he uses. He has also repaired thousands of amps, and for the P3A to be his main amp speaks volumes about the sound and performance of the amp.
