Most modern XLR input stages have a 10kohm input impedance so splitting 3 ways should be fine. I need to split three ways, 1 for FOH console, 2 for Mon console, and 3 for my record rig. It will be a mix of line and mic level signals hitting the splitter. Despite the potential drawbacks I'd still like to design the splitter in the best possible way.

This mixer is passive, meaning it requires no external power. It also means that nothing is amplified. Consequently, the mixed output will have to be amplified by your stereo or another amplifier system. Ask Question Step 1: Circuit Diagram This circuit is actually really simple. All the complexity is due to repetition.

In response to comment: There are two ways to build a passive splitter/combiner. One way is to use multiple coils on a single audio transformer core. The other way uses resistors. The datasheet specifies that the STD-10K uses a resistor network to combine the signals. This guy built a resistor network combiner/splitter himself.

of passive splitting of microphones in most sound reinforcement applications. Modern microphones generally re-quire a load impedance greater than 1,000 ohms, and performance often degrades significantly with heavier loading. Since mix desk input impedances rarely exceed 1,500 ohms, passive splitting utilizing 1:1 turns ratio transformers
