Based on your drawing, it seems that your rear / 7.1 speakers aren't the issue as much as your side / 5.1 speakers are since it is not enclosed. The only difference between 7.1 sides and 5.1 rears is that 7.1 sides should be directly to the side while 5.1 rears should be about that or 10* behind you. Seems odd but they're not supposed to be to the "rear" of you.
