Just like Jaydog mentioned, set all speakers to small with crossover point between 80hz to 100hz. Subwoofer though should be set to 'LFE' (not LFE+Main) and left at default 120hz. If you are getting better performance setting the speaker crossover below 80hz, you are having issues that need to be looked into and resolved.

properly set up and calibrated, the 80ish crossover setting is a good thing and will actually give you better overall performance, dynamics, and power handling. Let the main speakers focus on the frequency range they are designed to and not stress trying to play low bass thats supposed to be handled by the sub anyway.

My receiver has settings to set a crossover point for each individual channel. The sub also has the knob on the back to set crossover. What do you do with the knob if you want to set different frequencies for different channels ? Is that not used ? I'll be plugging it into the pre out subwoofer jack on the reciever. Bought a Polk Audio HTS 12.

The crossover is marked low and high out , the low being the sub the high being my mains (satalittes) I run the subs at 80 hertz and down and the mains at 70 hertz and up . The crossover has a very steep slope so when its set at 80 hertz it IS 80 hertz I get nothing above that its just very clean pure sub without any upper bass (thats like 100 hz bass) .

The crossover on the PSW-505 only works if you use the red and white RCA input. If you use the LFE input the crossover on the sub does not work because your reciever it what would set the crossover.you should be able to hear the difference between 60hz and 120hz unless you have your reciever set to a low crossover point.

Now listen carefully for the point at which the subwoofer transitions to your main speakers. This is the crossover point, and this point should be below the frequency of a male human voice. Whichever phase setting sounds louder or fuller at the subwoofer’s crossover (transition) point is the optimum setting. Sometimes no difference will be heard.
