Polk designed this output to provide a variable signal to a sub-woofer. This means you'll have to get a 3.5mm stereo headphone plug and put it into the headphone jack on the side of the I-Sonic. This will shut off the internal speakers.

I spoke with Ken Swauger of Polk Audio yesterday. He acknowledged that there is a problem with the I-Sonic and that it had been traced to the manufacturer that substituted (apparently substandard) parts without authorization. I sent two of my three units in today for replacement and am hopeful that this will finally solve the issue.
