The sl1000 can also have the glue holding the pole piece let loose. I've had it happen on more than one of mine. There's no saving it when that happens as it traps the voice coil. Whether you want to or not the best course is to replace it with another or buy the RD0194 and make some adjustments to the cut out for the new RD0.

The original SL1000 had an aluminum faceplate, which is no longer available. Polk has replaced the SL1000 with this SL2000/RD0194-1 tweeter. The screw holes for this replacement tweeter do not always match those of the original tweeter. For more info, please see this statement from Polk Audio. The original Polk SL1000 tweeter had an aluminum faceplate. That tweeter is no longer available. Instead Polk offers a black faceplate tweeter. They used the faceplate from the SL2500 and the dome from the SL2000 to make a replacement tweeter that is suggested for both the SL1000 and SL2000 models.

Polk has issued this statement Polk SL2000 size explanantion. Although the SL2500 and the SL1000/2000 tweeter look very much alike, there are differences in the voice coil which affect the frequency response so use the model appropriate for your speaker.

As per my previous post in this thread, it *may* have worked fine and dandy to just go back to the Peerless, which most say is a superior tweeter to the SL1000. You might want to try it in the future, on the supposition that Polk didn't make any other changes to the MW or the XO. Good that you are happy though.
