For me my Vista default playback device is creative SB XFI, my secondary is ATI's HDMI audio. In powerDVD you can set this default to 'USE HDMI' so it automatically plays sound over HDMI via my 4870 to my HD TV. If a bluray disk is put in my LG drive it autolaunches Powerdvd and keeps the 'USE HDMI' playback device (all is fine and works well).

My PC is DVI out and the cable is DVI to HDMI from PC to TV. With the nvidia gpu I read that it cannot decode audio, however it only supports pass through. So essentially, unless I am wrong.
