It has to do with the way you format the drive. If you do it as Journaled I think Pro-Tools doesn't use it. Do some checking on how to format a hard drive for Audio on a Mac. It is either as journaled or not as journaled. Case sensitive may play a part also. It's definitely the fault of the formatting mode chosen.
