ProAc Response 2.5 loudspeaker | Stereophile.com

ProAc's designer Stuart Tyler sounded casual—almost bemused—when I spoke with him recently about the new 2.5, a floorstanding, two-way ported box in the middle price slot ($4500/pair) of his Response series. While answering my pressing queries about the crossover point, driver materials, cabinet construction, and other reviewer obsessions, his body language …

While ProAc will continue making Response 2s in a slightly upgraded version, by the time you add stands the price differential makes the $4500 2.5 a bargain on yet another level. The combination of the Response 2.5s and the Cary 805s provided me with some of the most sublime listening pleasure I've had in all my years as an audiophile geek.
ProAc Response 2s Floorstanding Speakers ... - AudioReview

ProAc is phasing out the 2S with the line going from the 1SC to 2.5 and on through the Response 5. So there are probably some good deals to be had. I bought my speakers from Distinctive Audio in Ottawa (613-722-6902); Joel, who posted on this site put me in touch with Harrington Audio (705-742-7716) - great price also, but I ended up buying ...

The tuning of the 2.5's reflex port is revealed by the impedance "saddle" at 38Hz in this graph. Fig.1 ProAc Response 2.5, electrical impedance (solid) and phase (dashed) (2 ohms/vertical div.). Looking at the responses of the individual drive-units and the port (fig.2), the Response 2.5 appears to be almost a textbook two-way design.

ProAc Response 5 Floorstanding Speakers. Great musicality and coherence. Very good value on a second hand market. Size. I'm a fan of Proacs and my current settup is Proac 2.5 ARC LS15, VT100MkII Meridian 508.24 NBS Master III I decided to add more space, details and bass articulation to my system and was looking around for new set of speakers.
2 Proac speakers comparison | Audio Science Review …

958. Jul 14, 2020. #6. Both sets of Stereophile measurements for the two Proac speakers are mediocre. I've seen a lot worse - and a lot better. The 2.5 model uses a good woofer and a good tweeter, but the two don't mate together well. That 7" woofer is good for bass but starts to have problems in the midrange.
ProAc Response 1.5 Floorstanding Speakers - AudioReview
http://www.audioreview.com/product/speakers/floorstanding-speakers/proac/response-1-5.html
The 1.5 gives much of the performance of the 2.5 and images a bit better. The 2.5 has better bass, and has a richer midrange, but that would depend on the size of your room. A much better buy than the 1SC with good stands. For a few hundred more you get some real bass and a deeper, richer sound. Similar Products Used:
DIY ProAc Response 2.5
https://www.oocities.org/diyproac25/faq.htm
The DIY speaker is the closest possible attempt at replicating the ProAc 2.5 given the lack of public access to the ProAc customised Scan Speak 18W/8535 woofer that is used. But with Jacq's crossover modifications and your chosen better quality parts it is believed the difference can be compensated or exceeded.
