BTW, Windows Update is really bad about identifying Realtek audio devices as C-Media audio devices (which would cause the message you got). If we determine that that is what is happening here, that would be the time to download the Realtek AC'97 Code eugen66 suggested. You may need to download the Realtek High Definition Audio Codecs , too.

When I go to control panel > system > hardware > device manager and go to sound, video, and game controllers tab, there is a yellow exclamation mark by the C-Media AC97 Audio Device.
