PS Audio has a $1000 add-on power supply for the PCA2, which probably would close the gap. I also concluded that the PCA2 was a touch sweeter, and had a bit more detail at the back of the soundstage, and was slightly less "hifi-ish". The PFR cost nearly $3k, so I consider the PCA2 a substantial bargain at current prices.

I have a PCA-2 and have compared it to the Aesthetix Calypso, an Audio Research LS-16MKII, as well as a few more highly regarded line stages. The PCA was better than all in my system. The only one that I tried that was marginally better was the Pass Labs XO.2. The Pass had better low level detail which sometimes can come across as a little bright.

Nightfall, I did go through with the purchase of the PS Audio PCA-2. I can't wait to get it. They say it takes a least 100 hours before it starts to sound really good, and gets better after that. You can be sure I will be posting on it's headphone capabilities as well as its function as a preamp. As far as I know, the Emmeline II is a new amp.

PS Audio PCA-2 I just added a PCA -2 to my HCA-2. After a couple of hours of listening I noticed that the PCA -2 was quite warm (not hot) and as normal the HCA-2 had barely a trace of heat. Is that normal for the PCA-2? By the way they sound great together. My system now consists of 2 HCA-2's.
