No sound output from audio part of component cable on a PS2

There's an option in the PS2 menu that says something like "Audio out" and you can set to Optical or Component (or "Digital audio output " On, Off, I don't remember quite right), you could try that. If that doesn't work and the video comes fine out of the composite cable and the audio out of the optical, I suggest you just let it go.

PS2’s support for DVD-Video means that the box is also required to support audio in PCM and Dolby Digital formats (support for DTS is optional in DVD), and the console includes an optical digital output that can feed a surround system. But don’t look for those capabilities to be exploited much for gaming.

USB based audio just isn't going to work for this. Neither the PS2 nor your monitor support any form of USB audio. The USB ports on the PS2 were meant for PS2 specific peripherals (I think they might support USB keyboards and mice but the uses are very limited) and the USB ports on your monitor are just a hub.

SCPH-30001: No video/audio output (No, this isn't a component out issue I tried that) I got this ps2 model for 21$ off of eBay. It was sold for parts and I knew about the issue because it was listed as 50001 for parts, and I needed a new shell for my current 50001. I received it and got a 30001 instead, I cant use this shell so I guess I'll ...

The best way is to connect your heaphones directly to the 2 audio cords (red and white) from the PS2 cable, if you are using composite or component cables. You will need an RCA to jack adapter, like this one for example, or you can build it from 2 adapters if you can't find one with mother plugs on both ends.
PS2 Component Cable Problem (No Video, Only Audio) | AVForums

1: setting component in menu. 2: rebooting ps2 and checking its set correctly. 3: checking and re-checking my connection. 4: taking the green lead from the component cable and plugging it into the yellow composite to see if the tv is even seeing the ps2. [nope] No sound, no video, nothing, nada, zilch.
