May 30, 2007. #1. I've got my PS3 hooked up to my telly through one of the two HDMI sockets. Every time I switch on the console the sound is horribly distorted by a loud crackling. I can normally fix this by briefly pulling out the HDMI cable from the back of the telly and then pushing it back in again, and the sound returns to normal.

Tried different hdmi cables, tried sending audio through optical cable, bitstream, lpcm, hooked ps3 straight to tv instead of receiver, sent audio to my surround speakers and also just to the tv speakers, and still get the crackle in pretty much the same instances as the OP, ie. screams, higher pitched voices, etc.

So please don't suggest anything using HDMI cables because they just won't work. :(Now, it's only the audio that gets messed up. There are no rolling bars across the screen or anything, so I don't think it's a ground loop problem. The type of sound that it makes is like a cross between white noise on a TV screen and crackle/buzz almost.
