This has been taken for repairs and so have a Sharp 32'' TV which I have plugged my PS3 into. the connection is via HDMI and I can only get sound with no picture. I have tried the same connection with a DVD player and this works fine. I know the PS3 is working as I can hear it working without the picture.

From the PS3 main menu: 1. Settings->Sound Settings->Audio Output Settings. 2. Change it from HDMI to Digital Out (Optical). I do NOT have optical hooked up on my PS3, so if you have it hooked up, you may want to unhook it.. probably shouldn't matter. 3. I left what was defaulted: "Linear PCM 2 Ch. 44.1 kHz" and 48kHz.

Tried every solution posted above using multiple input cables and controllers on a TV where three other systems were already working perfectly. Still no picture or sound from this old PS3… it turns on and the fan blows to give you the impression that it’s doing something, but that’s all it can do.
