The TV is probably expecting both the sound and video to be coming in from the HDMI cable (as it usually would), whereas you have the PS3 configured to output the sound via RCA. Try connecting the RCA cables to something other than your TV, i.e. a stereo receiver.

JUST a hdmi switch doesnt do what you want. in your first post the one was a hdmi switch (for multiple souces) but also had built into it an audio extractor (which is what you needed). this should work fine for your ps3 since the ps3 outputs video and audio along hdmi (doesnt need arc).

Just run audio out from the TV using stereo RCA cables. The tv will convert the digital audio signal to analog. PS3 -via HDMI-> TV -RCA Audio Out-> Receiver
