pulseaudio needs to be pointed to jack once both up and running. Pretty simple..ey? For certain reasons, I had endless grief with it cuz.. First I think because pulseaudio 4.0 seems be buggy and mess up the alsa driver so that in some situations it leaves it locked and therefore jack cannot start even though pulseaudio is not running.
