Down the drain: The elusive ‘default’ PulseAudio sink. There is no such thing as a default output device (or sink) in PulseAudio. It say so right there in the official documentation. There is something referred to as a fallback device which is used “if the stream has not been seen before”. Yet there is a configuration command called set ...

Multiple pulseaudio sinks/sources are available from pulseaudio v6.0 and later. As Ubuntu uses it's own version numbering, check true version number with: pulseaudio --version. audio - How to set up a PulseAudio sink? - Raspberry Pi ...

load-module module-tunnel-sink sink_name=rpi_tunnel server=tcp:192.168.2.13:4713 sink=bcm1 If you don't put a sink_name in, pulseaudio won't start. The sink refers to the sink name on the pi side, which then also needs a name; add a corresponding sink_name to the module-alsa-sink line in default.pa there:

Make sure to replace alsa_output.pci-0000_05_00.0.analog-surround-40 with the sound card name shown in 'pacmd list-sinks'. Now you have 2 additional sinks which can be used separately. You can choose 'sink_name' freely, as long as there is no sink with that name already.
pulseaudio no output devices / Newbie Corner / Arch Linux ...
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=88194
Re: pulseaudio no output devices. Please don't manually load module-alsa-sink/source. Use module-udev-detect (don't comment it out, and comment out the module-alsa-sink/source lines) instead, it will detect everything for you. And you don't really need to reboot, just restart pulseaudio with (pulseaudio -k; pulseaudio)

For example, if the second index works: pacmd set-card-profile alsa_card.pci-0000_00_1b.0 output:hdmi-stereo-extra1. A new sink should show up. Set it as the default sink and see. If it does not work, paste. pacmd list-sinks. and. pacmd list-sink-inputs. (while something is playing through pulse)

Controlling PulseAudio from the Command Line. Controlling PulseAudio via pavucontrol is all very nice, but it's time consuming and fiddly: you have to do a lot of clicking in a lot of tabs any time you want to change anything.. I wanted quick ways to do a few things I do a lot: turn all microphones off (this is a big one!); switch to the external speakers so I can listen to music; …

https://forum.manjaro.org/t/no-audio-output-suspended-sink-pipewire/67878
Issue No audio output, output sink suspended. Running updated Manjaro KDE, sound would work but stop after inactivity. Restarting pulseaudio did not fix the issue, only rebooting the system. Journald showed “pulseaudio - failed to create sink input: sink is suspended”. When audio output stopped, mpv also stopped playing videos - I could open them …
