https://github.com/mikebrady/shairport-sync/issues/227
to clarify about pulseaudio. the sink running shairport-sync has no pulseaudio installed. the source linux machine runs pulseaudio and has via pulseaudio-raop the ability to play to airplay devices (it worked with a apple airport express some time ago) - so i tried to stream to the new setup cubie with shairport-sync installed on it. 42804 – raop module does not work with shairport
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42804
raop module does not work with shairport, which is kind of annoying as it's much nicer to use than having to have a dedicated airport hardware which does nothing but ship music.
Pulseaudio support? · Issue #266 · mikebrady/shairport ...
https://github.com/mikebrady/shairport-sync/issues/266
There is a PulseAudio backend in Shairport Sync right now, but it is based on the simple interface and is completely unsuitable, IMHO, for further development. A fully-featuredPulseAudio back end is needed, and it might even require changes to Shairport Sync's backend arrangements. The really crucial thing is for PulseAudio to be able to give a ...

2 Answers Active Oldest Score 2 Unfortunately at present the raop module shipped with pulseaudio does not support the newer RAOP2 protocol for AirPlay via UDP (rather than TCP). This however would be needed to stream audio to ShairPlay or newer AirPlay devices.

https://askubuntu.com/questions/544251/airplay-sink-no-longer-visible-in-pulseaudio
The pulseaudio-module-raop in Ubuntu used to support my 2nd-gen Airport Express, but it no longer appears in my list of pulseaudio sinks. It's been 6 months since I used it, with a lot changing on my system, including a successful upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04. Somewhere along the line I assume something got misconfigured or maybe a prefs file ...

Unfortunately, until someone adds UDP support to Pulseaudio's RAOP module, you (and I ) are probably out of luck. Edit: Just discovered RAOP Play, which seems to support UDP, might give this a try later. Edit2: There's also pulseaudio-raop2, which is a Pulseaudio module for RAOP over UDP. [Solved] pulseaudio network sink? - Help - Volumio
https://community.volumio.org/t/solved-pulseaudio-network-sink/785
Would be great to have a pulseaudio RTP sink integrated. Currently I’m switching SD cards between Volumio and a Raspbian install with RTP PA sink installed, as Volumio’s Shairport and Pulseaudio-raop does not work (there seems to be a fix, but as always it might take a year or 2 before it’s in the mainline ) volumio, VoIP, asterisk ...
