Linux should mount hibernated file systems read-only, but if you have a save file on a file system that is mounted read only, then the save file won't work properly. I found the option and was able to disable it, which solved the NTFS-write issue.

You should always be able to boot Puppy Live, without a save file, with or without a hard drive. ext2, ext3, ext4 are Linux file systems. NTFS is a MS Windows file system, and Linux doesn't have complete full support for NTFS. Puppy has ntfsfix but it is more limited than MS Windows ntfs file system repair tools.

I configured Alsa with the Puppy wizard (Puppy 3.0). There is now a volume control on the taskbar and I can run the mixer, but the master control stays muted and will not change. The ES-1879 is an ISA sound device. I suspect that my problem is missing sound support in the kernel and that I need to load the kernel driver for the ES-18xx device.
