The uA301 was used in the very first type of QUAD 405, so I guess you have an original QUAD 405 rather than a QUAD 405-2. The Acoustical Manufacturing Co. made many small improvements in the QUAD 405-2, the most important ones are halving the dead zone of the class-C stage and upgrading the op-amp from uA301 to TL071.

The one in the picture is the best (LJM QUAD405-2). You just have to change the two power resistors, put a better input capacitor and change the chemicals (not mandatory). Of course if this kit is still delivered with correct components. I have seen the quality of the components of the kits drop for a few months.

A Quad 405 for repair needs to have its PCBs re-done and I thought that I might as well put the 405-2 variant in there for the same amount of trouble: audio reviewers claim the 405-2 is definitely better than the 405-1, which I will be happy to verify once a board is built.

Most notes on the Quad 405 just skip over this bit and don't mention what it actually is. The 405 uses an implementation of a Maxwell-Wien Bridge - normally the input signal would be between points FB and OP and balance occurs when the voltage and phase at points A and B are identical, i.e. when Z L2 / Z R20||R21 = Z R38 / Z C8 .
