Symptom: The limiter adds audio distortion even at its lowest setting. Solution: Install a 33K 1/2 W resistor in series with R527 (390A) or R539 (390).

Stewart Warner R390A. Stewart Warner R390A Rebuild. Picked this up on ebay back in March 2004. Tag says it's a Stewart Warner serial number 43. I spent about two years rebuilding this unit, module by module. I didn't do it all contiguously, I'd do a module, then work on some other project, then come back to this and do the next module.

Hi Jordan, Thank you for the report on stagger tuning and your resultant good sounding audio. This is one of the factors in having a 390A with good audio. Some others are the condition of the mechanical filters and using a good audio transformer to drive a good speaker. However, there is a small segment of IF decks that need not be stagger tuned.

So far, I have recapped the audio deck on my EAC R390A. What I have found is that all of the chassis are EAC except for the PTO, which says Motorola, and the I.F. deck which says Teledyne.
