Blue Light Special: Ray Samuels Audio Emmeline II Stealth Review By Fred O’Neal (Tuberoller) I would have to guess that value is subjective and can only be determined by need or desire. I’m sure that there is not one of us who “needs” a headphone amp or any other audio gear but the desire burns strong or we would’nt all be here.

The Ray Samuels Audio “Protector” is a brand new design, incorporating all of Ray’s designs leading up to modern day, with the addition of a 4-pin balanced headphone output, which will take any single-ended input and, utilizing a circuit design created by RSA which then converts the signal to a balanced one, and with the use of a re-terminated balanced headphone cable, …

And this is exactly what happened with the Ray Samuels Audio Emmeline XR-10B. My brief comments on the prototype is that the blue light around the volume knob was bright enough to light up my room, the midrange was very impressive and the bass was friggen phenomenal. Add to that a truly immersive 3D soundscape that was the best... ever!

What is amazing is the difference between a mere 60 hours and then, with over 300 hours, the difference of the sound from Ray Samuels' Emmeline The Predator. There is plenty of output power to drive the 4p and i did briefly dig out my HD600, which are now out of favor in my home, and there was power to drive these harsh ear cans.

Powerline conditioning: Walker Audio Velocitor S Review Component Retail: $1,175: Word on the audiophile headphone alley has been that Ray Samuel's Emmeline II Stealth was really optimized for preamp duties. The new Raptor, however, is said to be Ray's current statement on balls-to-the-wall dedicated headphone amps.

If you have never heard of Ray Samuels, his claim to fame is really twofold. He makes some very fine tube electronics from headphone amplifiers to preamplifiers; and a growing line of pocket-sized headphone amplifiers for the iPod nation on the …
Review: Ray Samuels Audio Apache Headphone Amplifier Amplifier

Review: Ray Samuels Audio Apache Headphone Amplifier. Maybe Ray should have called it the Can Opener. It creates a vividly open sound area with whatever cans I try it with (Senn 650s, AKG 701s, Grado GS1000s). In short, the sound is un-headphone-like. (Uncanny?) The Apache produces a very compelling listening experience that I have never had

6moons audio reviews: Ray Samuels Audio Predator

The above explains why Ray Samuels of the eponymous audio company built a portable DAC/amp. And to be honest, his answer makes sense. The times when a medium carried only a single issue of music are definitively over.
6moons audio reviews: Ray Samuels Audio Emmeline Hornet

Sonically, Ray was taken aback by its old-school, vinyl-like sound, "how the voices and solos are placed more forward while increasing depth of the performers and instruments behind them." Ray also took keen note of a special midrange texture that was reminiscent of tube amps, with bass drive that "could kick serious butt".
