In the Realtek HD Audio manager under mixer the SPDIF slider is greyed out. Also under the SPDIF setting in the audio I/O section there is a autolock button which doesn't seem to do anything and the status is on unlock. I have set the rest as "Output digital audio source" and "48KHz" In powerdvd I have set use SPDIF and under the info tab it reports it is.

SPDIF is Digital, and hence, only data is transfered down the cable to your amp. Not Audio.. You cant up the volume on Data. Thats why its greyed out, and thats why Master volume does nothing. Also sometimes speaker suddenly drops in and out (loud then soft) when playing audio. Especially when watching tv using tv tuner card. Could be speakers.
