You can verify this on your own by simply plugging a device that is outputting Dolby Digital directly into the SPDIF input and goto the Realtek HD Audio Manager ---> Digital Input tab ---> Digital Audio Input tab. Thanks for the suggestions. Nothing was working. So, I uninstalled SHS, reinstalled it and now I get the message "The following drivers either do not support the current audio format or are in use by another application." And it lists all the Realtek HD stuff (output, CD input, mic input, and Stereo input). The choices are Disable and Use Anyway.

Realtek HD Audio Manager settings, working with 5.1 in Windows 7: ---- attempting the same in Windows 10 unsuccessfully - means I need to downgrade to Realtek HD Audio Driver to v2.81 - in order to get the Realtek HD Audio Manager (as it's no longer available in v2.82). Setting to 5.1 brings through side speakers, so need to set to 7.1.
