PulseAudio High CPU Usage / Multimedia and Games / Arch ...

PulseAudio High CPU Usage. I've noticed that when playing games, PulseAudio uses a less than insignificant amount of CPU time and this doesn't seem to have any real valid reason. It's 0% when idle (as expected) but if a game is playing audio, it can be between 2 and 50%, depending on the game. Running Factorio for example causes Pulse to use 15 ...

Thing is it's not pulseaudio in general. 100% CPU usage is not normal under any other circumsatnces. Something with replay-sourcery is making it spike and stay at 100%. If I record the same monitor with parec $ parec -d alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo.monitor | twolame -r - out.mp3

I tried to set up pulseaudio on my computer, but it has very bad performance. When I play a music in Totem, pulseaudio uses about 18% of my CPU, and sometimes it uses 70-80%, and slow down my system. I tried this setting also, but the result even worse: pulseaudio uses always over 50% of my CPU. My CPU: Intel Celeron 2.10GHz.
PulseAudio under the hood - Victor Gaydov

PulseAudio doesn’t need this, so it tries to reduce the number of interrupts to lower CPU usage. To reduce the number of interrupts, the buffer size and period size (a.k.a. fragment size) are set as large as supported by hardware. Typical values are 2s buffer size and 1s or 0.5s period size.

Pulseaudio + Firefox high CPU usage : archlinux

Pulseaudio + Firefox high CPU usage. I've noticed that Pulseaudio uses around 30% CPU (continuously) if I open a website with sound notifications, such as Gmail, from Firefox. This happens despite Gmail is not actively playing any sound. Only very sporadic beeps when I get a Hangouts message. It seems there's some active polling going on.
Use 'ALSA' Audio Output in VLC to Lower the CPU Usage

I don’t know which to blame here, whether its VLC or the PulseAudio sound server’s fault or something else. Because whenever I’m playing a multimedia file in VLC (noticed it while using the newly installed Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon), according to the system monitor, the ‘PulseAudio’ process uses unnecessary amount of CPU cycles.. For example, if I were playing …
Reduce number of AudioInput callbacks · Issue #4177 ...

The fact that Mumble makes pulseaudio occupy more CPU made me suspicious, and armed with my new knowledge of how AudioInput works, I suspected a callback rate issue. So, attached you'll find a patch to profile how many callacks per second pulseaudio is doing to addMic() and addEcho() .
