Renaissance Audio is the former Morel USA, so they have a long track record in both OEM driver manufacture and making complete loudspeakers. As I mentioned in my June column, their MLP-403.5 loudspeaker is a two-cubic-foot, sealed-box three-way with a dome midrange driver, at the near-improbable price of $1090/pair (footnote 1).

The MLP-501 3-way loudspeaker is a larger, floor standing version of the MLP-403.5. Like the MLP-403.5, the MLP-501 is an excellent sounding speaker but with deeper bass. The uniqueness of this particular speaker is its focus on the midrange area with extremely low distortion.

As one example, I think that Renaissance Audio's MLP-403.5 at $1090/pair is a screaming bargain that punches far above its price class. I just love it. You (or someone you live with), however, might think its looks, its bulk, or both instantly and totally disqualify it, and might by far prefer DALI's Ikon 2, despite its bass not having the heft or punch of the Renaissance.

A recent column in Sterephile hinted at the great sound and value of the Renaissance MPL-403.5, a 3 way acoustic suspension stand mounted speaker. It's a bit above my price range at $1100, but they also make the same sspeaker without the mid range driver, the MLP-201.2, for $650.
