REVIEW - Yulong Audio Sabre DA8 Reference DAC - Head-Fi

The amp sections are quite different - Yulong sounds best with low impedance cans, and is smooth and inviting. NuForce is better with higher impedance models and is more lively. Generally, I think the DA8 amp is more useful. And yet, overall, the DAC-100 can be supremely fun to listen to.

Thanks for great review project86! After reading a whole lot of reviews on DACs in this price range I thought I should try DA8 after reading your detailed description. Hopefully I will get it in late next week. I will be using it with Denon …

The Yulong DA8 tops out at 24/96 over optical but some of my other DACs can reliably accept 24/192. Whatever the case, Toslink is generally the least respected option by audiophiles, and some DACs (Matrix X-Sabre for example) choose to …

For the Mytek - I have it on good authority that their device (using the ES9016 which is not seen very often compared to ES9018) is one of the worst measuring implementations of a Sabre DAC. This is not from Yulong but another designer who knows a thing or two about the chips, and measured the Mytek with his Audio Precision rig.

The review mentioned that the DA8's amp section is somewhere between Yulong's $300 and $700 amp offerings, but I'm a tad skeptical after owning a few 2 in 1 units claiming formidable amp sections. As of recent, I'm using the AudioGD NFB10SE, and previous to …

The Yulong had a fuller sound-stage, more air around instruments, and if the differences were small, they were consistent through all the different types of material I played. Overall, although the sound of the two units was so similar, I consistently preferred the more expensive Yulong.
