I have a Acer Revo hooked up to my LG HT905TA via HDMI. HDMI out from the Revo -> HDMI in to the LG. From the LG, I have a HDMI out to my Toshiba TV. I am running the Acer Revo 3610 (virtually same machine as you are) and I can output 5.1 audio fine through the HDMI. In the system settings in XBMC do you have "Audio Output" setting on Digital and the output device on HDMI? My Revo connects to my Onkyo sr-607 receiver, then my receiver connects to my HD TV.
