Subject: [ftdx-10] RF getting into audio. Although not specifically an FTDX10 problem, I am getting RF into my mic lead causing distorted audio. If I move the lead around I can sometimes stop it or make it worse. I would try another mic lead but do not have one with the correct Yaesu plug.

I've been getting reports where the receiving station says that it sounds like I have RF in my audio. While I'm getting solid 59 reports,there seems to be RF in the audio. I've checked all my cables, etc. No amp, just running an IC-751A (100w) barefoot with the SM-8 desk mic into an MFJ 949-D tuner out to an R-7 vertical.

The problem they are reporting is probably RF feedback into your audio. That causes a kind of squirrelly distortion of your audio that can be hard to copy. It would be caused by a strong RF field near your rig (and your mic) that would be different on different bands. General things to try: (1) Be sure your rig is well grounded.

It most likely means that unwanted RF from your antenna system is getting into your transceiver's audio input (microphone), distorting your audio. My guess is that you have RF getting into your radio causing problems. Check to make sure the radio is grounding through the B- wire not the coax. Pull and clean the NMO base make sure you have a good ground there and that rust has not built up under the edges.
