Changing the sound effects to 64 solved it for for me but I still had to restart the game after. I think the problem is that the number of sound effects gets set to 1 during an update, but this only happens occasionally, so you shouldn't need to go all the way to 64 (I think mine's on 32 and all is fine).

Hey guys, Just a quick question. Yesterday I invested in a pair of Sony Extra Bass headphones, in fact it's the first pair of overhead headphones I've ever bought, and I bought them specifically to use with rFactor 2 as I absolutely love the sound effects (except the sound effect when the car hits a hay stack, which really should be change to a muted "puff" sound).

The file needs to be in '\UserData\Controller', so the user only needs to go to Settings->Control->Mappings in rFactor, select the profile and click load. That´s it.
