Go into the menu of the sharp, over to audio (or sound) and turn off HDMI audio. This should make the TV default to analog audio for that input. Or you may have to tell the sharp you using a DVI cable in the video menu which would make the TV default to the correct audio input. If this doesn't work try a different brand 3.5mm to RCA adaptor.

To enable the digital audio output, you need to select "Terminal Setting"- there will be a choice for PCM or bitstream, you will want to set it to Bitstream.
